I do plan on staying active with the family, but probably not the gym as timing does not always work out so well

Day 2 was rough.
Highs:
  • went to the gym
  • felt considerate for most of the day
  • Feel good about where this is headed, though I do not know the way
  • Lots of water...no caffiene!! 19c of water (I am drinking 4c as I type this up)
Lows:
  • Burned way past my caloric goal (3545 instead of sub 2300)
  • Felt drained most of the day..I think the calorie cutting hit hard fast....it seems I ate a "normal" amount today, maybe even less then I am used to and I was over 3000. I think I am used to 3700-4500 per day.
  • All that water means I have to piss 3x more then before..sucky during work
Tomorrow will be the test....I need to lift some weights at the gym and stop being a pansy about others.

Dinner was a train wreck!!

Pizza and cake, and I ate too much.
I felt bad about it, but the alternative is scrutiny and scowls..although my wife managed to eat nothing and get away with it....I think when you are holding an infant and feeding a 3 yr old it looks like you must be eating as well

I had (for the sake of argument, since I do not know the actual counts for the place I was at) 3 slices pepperoni pizza
I also had 3c water..which was a good point!!

Went back to 24hr..first time in over 2 years!! I figure I paid them over $1700 to hold a place for me should I decide to come in....bullshit, but my own fault

Decided to start slow, did 15min on the elliptical..just over 1.5mi and right at 225 cal burned

I feel like I worked out my overage from yesterday...at least
I was thinking of weights, but I tweaked my back a little during cardio, and I do have to work today.

I did forget my water bottle, but had 2c water before I left and at least 2c at the gym

Overall..it helped me get over my fear of new situations I posses at times when alone, so good workout!!

I was going to the gym day one, but it didn't work out well
I have 2 kids under 4, and even though my wife does the parenting in the middle of the night I still did not sleep well
I get up at 6:30 to check work items and then went back to bed for the 90 mins I think will be workout time 5-6 days per week.

Got the rant out of the way...onto the "fun" part. Me:
  • I am 5' 9" Tall....I think. I am taller then everybody I know who is 5' 8" and I slouch..so I will go with 5' 9" and not obsess over it. (1.75meters)
  • I am Male
  • 30 yrs old
  • Non-smoker
  • No Drugs, although I do drink on occasion
  • I weigh roughly 230lbs (16 stone 6 lbs) <-- I like the UK way on weight.....probably the low numbers
  • I get little to no exercise as of now...I do not count working, since it is mostly driving and paperwork.
  • According to everything I have read I have a "large frame"
  • Shirt XL to 2XL
  • Pants 38"-40" waist
  • BMI of roughly 34 (http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm)
What I guess I am shooting for:
Short Term:
  • Lose between 10-15 lbs by the end of September (8 weeks away from today is Oct 3 09)
  • Lose at least 2 points on my BMI (32 then as a minimum)
  • Be able to not be out of breath so much
  • Make lifestyle changes to increase chances of long term success
  • Lose 2 pant sizes...(34-36 range)
Long Term:
  • Lose between 45-60 lbs in 6-12 months... (185-170 lbs finished weight)
  • Get BMI down to under 30
  • Not feel out of breath after walking up from my own basement
  • Reduce overall calorie and nutrient intakes to within normal US Ranges
So
http://fnic.nal.usda.gov/ has the DRI tables that show for 30yr old males and gives the formula for daily caloric intake..I put myself in the light active category.
It means that
662-9.53(30)+1.12X(15.91X104.55+539.6X1.75) is my caloric intake idealy
So, if I understand it correctly I need to consume 2545 calories at present to stay as oveweight as I am. I am going to shoot for a daily goal of
less then 2300 for the first 10-14 days, then
sub 2000 for the rest of the first 8 weeks.



Manifesto

So, I.....like about 250 million of the 300+ million Americans in this country need to lose "some" weight. I say "some" because it is not a set amount. For every size 0 person I see in my city there must be 4-6 other, larger folks in view at any given time.

We will even forgo the whole...."If you are happy then by all means be happy argument." That is bullshit if I ever heard it. Most of us are not happy with our weight, and it manifests itself differently and at varied times. I say, if you are truly happy with your weight, could be naked around those you love and love you without feeling self concious and never worry about what people in public think of you..great. You should have never read any of this.

I do not propose to help others...I may not even help myself, but I have a family to think about and it is time I got healthier for myself and to be a better role model for my 2 boys.

I am thinking the online forum will help keep me honest with myself and rid almost all excuses for not keeping up with things like a food journal, exerise, etc.
